Short version: SNAPOUT does not collect, transmit, share, or sell any of your personal data. Everything the app tracks stays on your device. We have no servers that receive your information. We do not use analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking.
SNAPOUT is an Android application developed and maintained by The SNAPOUT team ("we", "us", "our"). You can reach us at snapoutapporiginal@gmail.com.
To help you manage your screen time, SNAPOUT needs access to certain information from your device. Here is exactly what we access, why, and where it goes:
SNAPOUT uses Android's PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS permission to see which apps are currently in the foreground on your device. This is the core functionality that lets the app detect when you are using Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, or any other app you have chosen to monitor.
This information is read in real time and is never stored, transmitted, or shared. We do not keep a history of every app you open. We only track cumulative time spent on the apps you have explicitly chosen to monitor — and even that tracking happens entirely on your device.
SNAPOUT uses the SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW permission to show full-screen warning overlays when you exceed your session limits. This permission is only used to display our intervention screens. It is not used to capture what you are doing in other apps.
SNAPOUT uses the VIBRATE permission to create haptic feedback during cooldown periods, reinforcing the intervention.
SNAPOUT runs a foreground service to continuously monitor your app usage. A persistent notification is shown while the service runs, as required by Android. The service only performs the monitoring and intervention functions described above.
SNAPOUT uses the RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED permission to automatically restart the monitoring service after your device reboots, so that you do not have to manually relaunch the app every time.
SNAPOUT uses Android's standard SharedPreferences mechanism to save the following on your phone:
This data never leaves your device. It is not backed up to our servers (we have none). It is not synced to any cloud. It is stored in your app's private data directory, which only SNAPOUT can access.
We do not share any data with third parties. We do not sell any data. We do not have any partners, advertisers, or service providers who receive information about you through SNAPOUT.
Because all data stays on your device, retention is entirely under your control:
SNAPOUT is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because we do not collect personal information from anyone, this is guaranteed by the design of the app.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as GDPR (Europe), CCPA (California), or the DPDP Act (India). Since we do not collect or store your personal information on any server:
If you have questions about your rights, contact us at snapoutapporiginal@gmail.com.
SNAPOUT's data is stored in Android's standard app-private storage, which is sandboxed by the operating system and protected from other apps. Because we do not transmit data over the network, there is no network-layer risk to your SNAPOUT data from us. We strongly recommend keeping your device secured with a lock screen, keeping Android updated, and only installing apps from trusted sources.
If we ever change how SNAPOUT handles data — for example, if we add optional cloud sync for paid users in the future — we will update this policy with a new "Last updated" date at the top, and we will notify users through the app itself before the change takes effect. Until then, the no-server, no-collection design of SNAPOUT is a core promise.
